Ginger (05.01.15 Wasabi and Panos)
inger Testimonial: I cannot possibly say enough good things about Jennifer and Jay's breeding program. Before finding Creekside, I contacted a lot of GSD breeders. I am very picky about breeders, and I wanted to feel confident about the background of the dog we would be bringing into our family. As soon as I contacted Jennifer, I had a good feeling about her program. She answered all of my questions and offered to let us visit her kennel.
At the time we visited, there were no puppies around. This was a good thing for us as it gave us a chance to focus on the temperaments of the adults and not just be swept away by the adorableness of the puppies. Jennifer and Jay's dogs had the ideal GSD temperament: intelligent, confident, and friendly (after checking in with Jennifer and Jay first). As anyone reading this testimonial knows, the dogs Jennifer and Jay raise are gorgeous, but I was more concerned about the dogs having good temperaments. A good temperament makes training much easier. After meeting the adults in the breeding program, I knew that our eventual puppy would have a good foundation.
We had to wait a couple of months before our puppy was born. Between and time we visited and the puppy was born, I sent Jennifer numerous emails with questions about our new puppy. She was very thorough in answering my questions and never acted annoyed. After the pups were born, Jennifer posted pictures at least weekly and updated us on the puppies' progress. Jennifer and Jay let us visit the pups at 4 weeks old. We were absolutely beside ourselves with excitement. Jennifer and Jay were, again, so welcoming and kind. We were able to pick our puppy up three weeks later. Even though Jennifer and Jay had just had a litter of puppies the night before, they were very accommodating about the pick-up. We were given a big folder of information and food for our new pup. Jay answered all of our questions about the puppy and told us to contact them if we had any more questions.
Even though we've only had Ginger for a few weeks, I am amazed at how quickly she has caught on to being a member of our household. I've never bell-trained a dog before, but Ginger caught on within a week. Since then, she hasn't had any accidents in the house. She just rings her bell, and we open the door for her to go potty. She has not had one mess in her kennel. Not ever. To me, this is a testament to the cleanliness of the environment that she was in; she knows that her living space is supposed to be clean. She already knows that she is not supposed to go to the carpeted areas of the house and sticks to the hardwood floor. We can leave a piece of a food or a toy on the ground, and Ginger will not touch it until she is invited. She waits for us to go out the door before following behind. She knows the sit command. She is also learning bite inhibition. That's all within three weeks.
As for games, Ginger loves to play hide-and-seek with our 8-year-old. He hides from her, and when she finds him she barks and looks very proud of herself. Beyond that, Ginger is a very loving pup. As I am writing this, she is sleeping behind my legs while I sit in the couch. She lays by me every night when I do the dishes and enjoys listening to the bedtime stories our son reads to her. (She's spoiled.) Honestly, I can't say enough good things about her, and she's still just a puppy.
If you are looking for a German Shepherd, you won't find better, more dedicated breeders than Jennifer and Jay at Creekside Kennels.
